TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A former Tampa General Hospital employee made his first appearance in front of a Hillsborough County Judge on Monday in a case involving child pornography.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said its internet predator unit launched an investigation after finding suspicious activity on a social media platform, although investigators did not say which social media platform was used.

The sheriff’s office said, with a warrant, deputies recovered 79 images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.

Investigators also said they found images of Farber that he had taken while at work at Tampa General Hospital showing inappropriate photos of himself taken in operating rooms and patient areas, although the photos do not show other people.

Tampa General Hospital issued a statement on the arrest, saying, “In accordance with our policy, the individual is not currently working at our facilities. We are cooperating with authorities on the investigation.”

In court, Farber’s attorney told the judge his client has strong ties to the community as he asked for a lower bond.

“Mr. Farber is a lifelong resident of Hillsborough County, he is married, two children, he has multiple family members familial generations here in Hillsborough County. He previously was employed in the medical field,” said Attorney A.J. Alverez.

Farber lives in the Fishhawk community, directly across from a children’s playground. A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, says she is shocked by the arrest.

Judge Catherine Catlin said in court that she believes Farber is a danger to the community.

“Well, sir, the mere fact that you are in possession of this material tells me you are a danger to minors. You are not to have any contact with minors whatsoever while these charges are pending and that includes your own children,” said Catlin.

She set bond in the case, but told Farber he can not go to his own home because there are children in his household.
