General Hospital Shocker: Fan-Favorite Written Out – Forever This Time?
General Hospital legend bids farewell to show once again after being ‘written out’
Long-time General Hospital actor says goodbye to show once again as another soap star moves into his dressing room, leading fans to speculate if they’ll ever see his return
Kin Shriner, the actor behind one of General Hospital’s most recognizable characters, appears to be stepping away from the long-running soap once again.
The 71-year-old star, who originated the role of Scott Baldwin in 1977, has been a recurring fixture on the ABC daytime series for nearly five decades. But after years of sporadic appearances and sudden absences, Shriner seems to have closed the chapter on his run in Port Charles.

He also revealed his dressing room has now been assigned to Jens Austin Astrup, who plays the newer character Kai on the soap. The dressing room swap tells fans that his latest exit might not be temporary.
Though General Hospital has not issued an official statement, longtime viewers have noticed Shriner’s character gradually disappearing without explanation. Most recently, Scott was involved in a storyline helping Ava Jerome (Maura West) manipulate Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) by tampering with his bipolar medication.

The plot switched when Scott suddenly left to grab ‘snacks,’ and never returned.
Shriner has remained transparent publicly acknowledging his shifting role on the series. In a 2023 post on X, he wrote, “I just found out Scotty @GeneralHospital was written out I thank u @GeneralHospital fans for decades of supporting me !!”
Despite that message, he did return after that, making his final on-screen appearance in August 2024. Now, with a new actor officially in his former dressing room, fans are treating this as Shriner’s real sendoff.
Still, General Hospital is known for bringing characters and their actors back under any number of plot twists, from comas to fake deaths to sudden reappearances.
Whether or not Scott returns again, Shriner’s contribution to the soap can’t be overlooked. Over the years, his portrayal of the character earned him a lasting spot in daytime TV history, and fans continue to express appreciation online for what he brought to the role.
His loyal followers reacted to his post on Instagram, with one disappointed viewer writing, “So many of us love and miss you Kin! You are an amazing “Scotty”. I would love to see Scotty and Lucy back together. Just another mistake by Frank.”
“I hope the powers that be bring you back to GH. Your comedic timing and skills are amazing! So missed on the show,” a second hopeful fan wrote.
One particularly frustrated fan commented, “I know I speak for thousands of people, but what the heck is going on??!! One of the most loved characters who has been on for decades, what the hell is going on?!!”
“This really stinks. You are an icon with GH! One of the best of the best! I have watched the show since I was a kid…I have loved Scotty since he got with Laura…Wishing you only the absolute best, Kin! You are loved!” a final fan chimed in.
